Taonui School needed a new home for their administration team after their existing administration building had been demolished due to weather-tightness issues. The Ministry of Education engaged Maycroft to deliver the new, stand-alone 179m² administration block at the semi-rural school.
We also carried out renovation work out to an existing classroom block, including remodelling a break-out room to house the computer server, kitchenette, new floor coverings and accessible ramp with covered verandah.
Delivering the project in a live environment required careful construction planning and extensive communication with the school. Much of the project was undertaken during term time, so we planned construction activities to minimise disruption to the school’s day-to-day operations and isolated the work area to protect the safety of children and staff. All intrusive construction works within the classrooms were undertaken over the holiday break.
With restrictions around access and vehicle movements e.g. vehicle movements in the school carpark were prohibited during school drop-off and pick-up times, we had to plan all material deliveries and construction activities carefully.
Adding further challenge, during refurbishment we identified a number of issues requiring remedial work, including rotten framing, an existing deck with no support and compromised Modulok panels. In every case, Maycroft identified a best for project decision and endeavoured to mitigate any programme delays.
The result is a modern, functional admin block and refreshed classrooms, delivered with minimal disruption to the school.
