ABOUT MAYCROFT

OUR early history

Take a trip down memory lane to the 1950s, a decade marked by Sir Edmund Hillary's historic conquest of Mt. Everest and the debut of the popular quiz show "It's in the Bag". During this time, New Zealand's economy was thriving, and it was in 1954 that Eric Maycroft established G.E.Maycroft Limited, a construction business that would endure for decades.

For the next thirty years, G.E. Maycroft completed many projects across the Wellington and Hutt Valley regions. Eric earnt a well-deserved reputation for his dedication and hard work.

Over the years, Eric's family and business both continued to expand. Together with his wife, Eric raised five children. By 1977, Eric's sons Ross, Darryl, and Grant had joined their father in business leading to the transformation of G.E. Maycroft Ltd into Maycroft Construction. Despite facing numerous challenges as a small business, Eric and his sons set the foundation for a long-standing culture based on trust, integrity, and a commitment to quality workmanship.

We continue to grow and evolve

Eric, Ross, Darryl and Grant Maycroft laid the foundations for our company. Since then we have grown both regionally and in our capabilities and connections, taking on increasingly complex projects and growing our team of skilled professionals. Yet, we remain committed to the values that have guided us from the very beginning.

At the heart of our business is a passion for building trust - with our customers, our team members and our community. We understand that trust is the foundation for successful and long-lasting relationships, and we strive to earn and maintain it through our unwavering dedication to integrity and transparency. Looking ahead, we are excited to continue this legacy for generations to come.

Team ownership

Maycroft Construction has been, and will continue to be, a business that is owned by its team members. From 1998 to 2008, Eric and his sons led the way in transitioning ownership of the business to other team members, including Peter Ross, Andrew Smith, Phil Wootton, and Grant Gunn. Andrew, Phil, and Grant still have active roles in the business and drive our strategic direction.

From 2016, we welcomed more team members into the ownership fold, further cementing our commitment to being a fully employee-owned local construction company. To ensure that all team members benefit from our collective success, we created TeamShare, a future trust that will help to secure the long-term financial stability of our business.

Growing our team & Capabilities

In 2015, Maycroft opened a regional office in Palmerston North, expanding our reach to the Central Region.

In 2018, we acquired the esteemed joinery factory formerly known as C.N Fayen Ltd, which allowed us to offer more intricate and precise craftsmanship to our projects. This has reflected our commitment to provide our customers with exceptional service and quality workmanship, which Maycroft is known for.

As a member of NZCA, Maycroft is proud to be part of a nationwide team of construction experts who work collaboratively to provide exceptional results for clients across the country.

Environmental sustainability

A key element of our environmental reduction strategy was becoming Toitū net carbonzero certified in December 2024 and in doing so developing a picture of our greenhouse gas emissions. Now we are working on strategies to manage, reduce and offset our impacts. Each year we provide reports for verification by Toitū Envirocare to ensure we maintain our continual reduction momentum.

Our 2025 goal is to become a Toitū enviromark gold certified organisation. To do this we will need to have a comprehensive plan to help achieve goals outlined in our environmental policy.
