Sacred Heart Colleges New Mission House was completed in July 2024. The team is extremely proud of the outstanding result. The design is complex and detailed, and the finished product reflects real attention to detail. The joinery team made significant contributions, resulting in a crisp finish for our customer. Despite the complex design, the team delivered this building according to our adjusted contract program, achieving a high-quality standard.
It's fair to say, the new Mission House building was much-needed. The project began with a seismic assessment in 2017 resulting in the planned and controlled demolition of the original 1970's Mission House building. Maycroft were engaged under an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) model for replacement of the Mission House building. During the ECI period, we assisted the project team through design developments with our construction expertise, programming and cost advice.
The old original building had been central to school administration operations and additional classrooms, and held a lot of fond memories for staff and students. The project was seen as an exciting opportunity to reimagine education and provide quality learning environments for Sacred Heart Lower Hutt students.
Designed in laminated timber on the footprint of the previous building, the two-storey Mission House building has become the visual and functional hub for the college. The administration and support services are on the ground floor - counselling rooms, meeting spaces, Deans rooms and staff facilities. The library, modern learning spaces, workrooms for staff, and storage spaces are all on the second floor.
We are delighted with the results and also with the opportunity it provided to strengthen our existing relationship with the College, IR Group and Robertson Architects.
