The new residential housing development in Trentham is part of a larger initiative by Kāinga Ora undertaken to meet the growing need for social housing across New Zealand. Their aim is to build 1,700 homes that incorporate three or more bedrooms, suitable for larger whānau throughout the country. This will increase the number of state-owned properties available for larger whānau groups in our region.

Situated in the Upper Hutt suburb of Trentham, this development spans four sites. The sites comprise of 16 units in total. A combination of stand alone homes and semi-detached homes, with most being two-storied. There are three homes within the developments that are purpose built for tenants with mobility challenges.

Encompassing multiple builds across four sites simultaneously, this project relied on robust working relationships with the Kāinga Ora delivery team, as well as with the local contractors and subcontractors we partnered with.

Designed with modern living in mind, the homes feature open-plan living and indoor-outdoor flow to courtyards, decks, and gardens. The craftsmanship is of a high standard, and the layouts are contemporary and light. The homes are spacious, warm, dry, and healthy, all meeting the minimum Healthy Homes standard—a standard that everyone deserves.

This has been an exciting project, working together with Kāinga Ora, Homes and Communities delivery team and Solari Architects. The homes are easy to maintain and built to last, contemporary in design and future proof. We are thrilled with the result. They are beautiful homes enhancing the local residential landscape — both functional and comfortable and supporting families in need.
