Kāinga Ora – Homes & Communities has a portfolio of up to 1600 homes. The overall intent of the Hutt Valley Retrofit Project is to increase the number of properties that are warm, dry, and safe and to achieve a standard as close to New Build as possible.
Our team is adding new timber framing to each property; installing insulation to underfloor, ceiling and wall cavities; creating new bathrooms, kitchens, services and fittings; and installing new carpet and vinyl flooring. New decks, driveways, paths, fencing and child safety gates are being added in some homes. All features have been carefully selected to ensure they are in keeping with the houses’ unique character.
Our team has had to work swiftly and efficiently to meet the tight programme and allow tenants to reoccupy their homes as quickly as possible. By allocating specific teams to specific tasks, Maycroft has been able to greatly increase productivity, managing 12-13 properties simultaneously.
Almost all the homes have some level of asbestos, requiring the use of specialist contractors to ensure this is managed safely.
True to its community roots, the project is a real collaborative effort, with materials sourced locally and an emphasis on using local suppliers and contractors.
