In November 2021, Maycroft began construction on the new Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU) and Emergency Department Observation and Assessment (EDOA) facility. Being a medical facility, the project featured technical elements as well as the challenge of being so close to a 24/7 functioning hospital Emergency Department. Neither of these proved to be a problem for our team in Palmerston North who have now completed this important project.
The new EDOA / MAPU facility is physically connected to the Emergency Department and will help MidCentral manage the acute demand and flow into the hospital. The MAPU and EDOA unit will share 30 beds, consultation room, multi-disciplinary team room, utility and medication rooms, nurse station and amenities for patients while under the hospitals care.
